Festive potatoes

I saw these on the kitchen section of apartmenttherapy.com last year and have been waiting for my chance to make them...well the time called when my friend threw a nice a little Christmas party last weekend. The boy and I were last minute attendees and I couldn't show up empty handed do I knew I could slap these together in the hour we had to get ready :)

I modified the recipe slightly in that I just boiled my Yukon golds until soft then mashed in milk and butter until it was good to the taste along with salt, pepper, and green dye (borrowed from my neighbor). Next I just scooped it in a piping bag and piped out some Xmas tree shapes onto a cookie sheet. Into the oven they went @350 for about 10 minutes/until a little browned and crispy. Lastly, I plated them on some Monterey jack shredded cheese for a snow effect and extra flavor.

Wam bam Christmas tree potatoes!

Wrappers for life

Soo...went a little Christmas crazy again today...This time wrapping a couple gifts with my new gnome stamp. I'll be pumpin' out everyone's gifts with this style this year.

I think I like wrapping gifts more than shopping for the contents. If anyone out there wants a person wrapper, I will do it and do it in style!

Today was freezing. Mostly because my landlord doesn't like to turn the heat on. Grrrr. I made the boyfran whip up a soup to warm our souls and toes :) it was delish and gave me some motivation to get through these last 3 days of school! Good luck to the people who have finals! Get your boyfriends to make you soup! I promise it will make you feel at least a little more happier!

Pure Love

I don't think I could have smiled any bigger.

Where do I begin with this? Feist has been by my side since back in the day when I was 15 and fell in love with "Mushaboom". My dear (deer) friend Kim hooked me up with her tunes and I was struck. "Mushaboom" has been on play at least 4-5 times per week since that day. That song is everything I want in life and just hits me every time. If it hasn't got old for me yet, I doubt it ever will.

Feist has been someone I have wanted to see live forever and a day. It could not have come soon enough. Saturday December 3rd was the day for me. Pure joy in my face ^. When my friends and I pulled up to our hotel (we drove to Montreal 5 hours away since she wasn't making a stop on her tour in Boston) and parked the car and realized the door down from our hotel was the venue. A beautiful old theater setting, we got balcony seats. She played everything my heart desired and opened with "Undiscovered First" from the new album to set off a powerful set. (Take a listen from one of last month's shows down here)

I have never felt so delighted to be at a show. It was inspiring, beautiful, and perfect all at the same time. It made me want to pick up the old drumsticks and wail on the toms the way Chilly Gonzalez was. Man, he had soul, she had soul, I could have cried with joy that evening.

I go to shows/festivals pretty frequently but have never felt like this and nothing could have compared. The entire band put so much heart into their music, you could just feel it oozing out. I could go on for days about her, but I'll leave at this.

Feist, you are where its at.

1,2,3,4,5,6,9 and 10 more days!

This is my girl Feist

A few of my friends and I will be voyaging up to her homeland in Montreal next week to fall in love with her voice all over again. Its as pretty as she is! Feist is probably my favorite musician to date. You know you're good when I can listen to the same song (Mushaboom) nearly every day since high school times.

I just got her new album, Metals, on vinyl which came with an electronic download too :) I am in heaven to say the least!

Everyone should take a listen to her, you all will fall as madly in love as I did, I PROMISE

OH and Happy Thanksgiving Eve!!

Paint-a-Pumpkin

I had a pumpkin sitting around that was gettin to be a bit on the moldy side... I wasn't ready to part with this little guy (and did not feel like studying heart attack treatment regimens) so I took matters into my own hands, washed it off, primered, and dressed it up. Ta-da! Gettin' my $1.59 worth and cutesied up my apartment!
Happy pumpkin painting!

Fro-Yo Adventures

Ever had frozen yogurt? I have and I am so glad it is a growing thang at the moment because I just cant get enough. It doesn't make you full and heavy like its cousin ice cream. There are many tart fruity flavors to enjoy along with the myriad of toppings that just make my head spin with delight as i think about it.

I personally like the weigh and pay style stores (Berry Freeze and Mixx) although there is one place, Chill, that I think has the best most tart yogurt and cutest mini gummy bears and fresh mangos. *All of those stores are in the Brookline/Allston area.

Pink Berry or Berry Line are the ones people have heard of, both of which, you cant go wrong, but i prefer the ma and pop places myself.

Fro-yo Escapades:

Yup! You know you want some!

My Pies & I

I had a massive bag of apples from pickin' season, soooo I whooped out my new apple peeler ($12! at Ocean State Job Lot) and slapped a dozen mini pies and a large heart shaped pie together.

I used a simple Paula Dean recipe but used a lot less butter and some store bought crust mix (no time for crust making over herrr)

Gotta enjoy these fall eat while they last!

shopping sprees: the best medicine

Once in a while I just get the urge to let go and treat myself...After many exams, extra shifts, and projects it was time. I got all these things under $190! I mean come on 1 pair of boots is that much these days!

This hoard included:

  • 1 pair of cutesy ankle boots
  • 1 pair of the pointy holiday flats
  • 1 pair of mint cords from Madewell (my personal favorite store - students get 15% discount!)
  • 3 pack of fall colored socks
  • A lace long sleeved shirt
  • An extra long peach sweater dress
  • 7/$25 Aerie panties

Moral of the story: save up and have some retail therapy! Lemme know and I'll join you :)
